The Bridge
The Sons of The Sun series started in my mind in 1988, when I met for the first time the first time the Uros, a pre-Incan population settled on self-fashioned floating islands in Lake Titicaca between Peru and Bolivia. The Uros considered themself the owner of the water of the lake. They have had the strength to survive the fall of the Incan empire, the Spanish colonization, and globalization challenges based on their extraordinary capacity of adaptation and respect for their ecosystem.
I returned twenty years later to spend several days with Cristina and Victor Suaña Coila's family, allowing me to know them intimately and portray their culture and traditions. I used an infrared converted digital camera to accomplish the luminous, timeless and surreal look I intended for this photo series.

I seek to promote their culture and raise awareness about their fragile world before climate change forces and globalization challenges dislodge them from their floating paradise.
